My hammer dulcimer

Leopardwood (sometimes called Lacewood) trim, black top, Leopardwood bridges with maple markers, natural Birch plywood bottom, hard Bass rods on both bridges. The color of the bridge is the same as the trim as its cut from the same piece of wood. The difference in color is due to lighting conditions and the surface of the bridges are not sanded as much as the sides to reduce glare.

My wife's hammer dulcimer

Zebrawood trim with a Purpleheart diamond in the middle to match the bridges, dark red walnut stained top, Purpleheart bridges with white plastic markers, natural Birch plywood bottom, hard Bass rods on both bridges. The colors in the big picture are more accurate. The lettering on the bridges is actually black rub-on letters applied over the lacquer finish.  A good feature for a beginning player to have these in the beginning to help in memorizing the markers and easily removable later by pushing the strings out of the way and just rubbing them off.  The rub-on letter marking only works with light colored markers.
